I don't hear the "core" aspect at all, but I thought the instruments and textures such as the vibrato synth strings and the percussive clicks were picked well to display a gloomy nostalgia.
Some bass notes seem to clash with the other notes being played. I am uncertain if this is intentional or not, and I'm not certain how well it works, even though the song is deliberately a bit dark.
I think it unfortunate that the track cuts off suddenly at the end, seemingly unintentionally?
But despite everything I like the general direction of the song.
